ABOUT ME

MY PROFESSIONAL STORY

In my professional life I have always found myself working with people. In some way or another - people have been my focus.

As a fresh Master's graduate, I got my first job as a Management Consultant working within Change Management. This meant working alongside employees at our client. It took time to understand the business challenges, get to know how everyone worked, what kind of information they received and sent, which processes they found useful and not, and listen to the employees. I learned early on that employees must be heard, they often know what can be done to make things improve - but need someone higher up to listen and take action. During these Change Management projects, I was working alongside both customer employees and managers, following up and sharing information on both quantitative and qualitative results. For 4 years I worked like this within the Nordic Region, with some short stops in New Jersey (US) and Amsterdam (NL).

”Life is like riding a bicycle.
To keep your balance you must keep moving”

Albert Einstein

Very soon I found that the personal approach I had with the partners was very much appreciated. The foreseeability, the planned activities, the sharing of information and also the short statuses to meet and talk - they were paying off in the relationships. Before long I had managed to create a nice number of partners which were providing win-win business opportunities.

The partners were very happy with this type of collaboration, so I found that I did something right.

As I continue my career - building on what I have experienced so far, it is very meaningful for me to continue nurturing and creating business relationships.

”Alone we can do so little.Together we can do so much”

Helen Keller

In my endeavours in this company I was often working with system integrations. Not on the technical side but how to manage the relation, projects, common customers etc. Working on the integration projects were mostly done ad hoc. However, I had a different view on this as I really saw some great business opportunities working with the integration projects. I did not only see the seamless technical part of an integration, but I also identified that working with other specialist IT systems created new relations - I experienced working together from different business areas provided additional opportunities. This I really wanted to explore further.

During the pandemic a work change happened: I left the Managing Director position and was given the opportunity to Head the new focus of building an Ecosystem of Specialised Maritime Systems surrounding the Voyage Management System my company was delivering.

Based on my collective experience at that point, I had a number of thoughts on how this should be set up. I started small, learned from experience and also learnt a lot by working with the integration partners.

”It doesn't make sense to hire smart people to tell
them what to do;
hire smart people so they can tell us what to do”

Steve Jobs

Being the only employee with time to focus on the organisation as opposed to the daily delivery of IT solutions and services to the customers, I started to work building processes from the ground up from within. Starting as a Business Improvement & Service Manager I was relatively soon promoted to Managing Director. This way I could keep on identifying areas of improvement, working with planning the details and also implementing these. As I was working from the inside I found myself in the middle of it all with the possibility to pick up vibes, how employees and customers felt about the changes implemented. So I used this as good information to add to the knowledge of how to efficiently implement changes further.

”Recognition is one of the most powerful

tools leaders have at their disposal”

Steve Gutzler

At this point in life I found out I really missed some dimensions in my work which were; enhancing, building and implementing processes. Improving a business and in addition I also missed the international aspect. I was hoping to find a place to work which covered all these aspects - and I actually found it.

Back then, the company I joined was a smaller company, working with international customers and they wanted to expand their business. They focused on the commercial shipping+IT market. I did not know too much about any of these areas, but I did know that the possibilities for growth and development of the organisation were numerous.

”By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail”

Franklin D. Roosevelt.

After this period I wanted a bit less traveling, so I started to work in Bergen within the recruitment business. For 7 years I had positions stretching from Temporary Employment recruitments to Executive Search. During these years I did a lot of Relation selling, always the customers' needs in focus, in addition to very much focusing on finding the best opportunity and work for the candidates I continually interviewed.
